Fishing For the Cure – Ice Fishing Challenge

12th Annual Tournament Raises $57,500!

It began with two friends (and coworkers) sitting on five-gallon buckets ice fishing in the dead of winter.

Cancer affected them both. They lost parents and siblings. They lost friends and colleagues.
Disheartened with losing so many people they loved to cancer, they wanted to find something they could do to help ease the suffering of others.

The year was 2007. The two friends hosted the first ever ice-fishing tournament to raise money for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.

Mostly, the two friends wanted to bring hope to others who were battling cancer, lost their battle with cancer, or had battled cancer and beat it. Although they were not sure how many people would participate in the ice-fishing tournament, the first year turned about to be a bit of a success – 112 people fished, raising $620.

Twelve years later, the tournament continues to grow. At this year’s event, one participant netted the largest fish ever caught during the tournament (13.431 lb. Northern Pike).

We broke other records too!

  • 1,351 fishing participants total
  • 260 kids (12 & under)
  • Raised $57,500, shattering our goal of $50,000

The Alexandra Industries Fishing For the Cure Ice Fishing Challenge is the largest single Relay For Life fundraising event in Minnesota. We donate all of the proceeds to help find a cure for cancer.

What began as a little fishing tournament has become a community-wide event. No matter what community you are from, save the date – Feb. 16, 2019 – and join us at our 13th annual tournament.

See you there!
