Schabel Receives Highest Honor: Distinguished Service Award

The Aluminum Extruders Council recognized Tom Schabel for his many contributions to the industry

Tom Schabel received the highest honor from the Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC), the Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes a member who has shown exceptional dedication and service to the industry. In addition to his countless contributions, Schabel has been a member of the Council's Board of Directors since 2005, and he served as Council Chairman from 2009-2010.

Tom Schabel, CEO, Alexandria Industries, received the Aluminum Extruders Council Distinguished Service Award from AEC Chairman Rick Merluzzi, CEO of Pennex Aluminum Company.

Leaders recognized Schabel’s involvement in the industry. “He helped re-invent the Aluminum Extruders Council, taking it from a nice, traditional organization, to one that is aggressive, nimble, and most importantly, relevant,” said Rand Baldwin, president of the Aluminum Extruders Council. “Many agree he is a chief example of how to develop a culture of excellence, teamwork and giving back.”

Through Schabel’s leadership, the AEC brought to light significantly greater awareness of the industry’s innovations and opportunities. Most notably, he helped lead the AEC’s initiative with the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) to protect the industry from the illegal and unfair trade practices of Chinese aluminum extruders. As a result, the DOC established the Fair Trade Act, which imposes countervailing duties for specified Chinese extrusion imports.

Schabel also believes in giving as much as he can to his local, regional and global communities. He serves on Boards for the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise Minnesota and the Unity Foundation Board.
