Alexandria Industries’ Fishing For the Cure Raises $60,000 to Fight Cancer

Tournament drew 1,231 participants for a chance to win one of 100 prizes

ALEXANDRIA, Minn., March 7, 2019 – The employees of innovative contract manufacturer Alexandria Industries raised a cool $60,000 at its 13th annual Fishing For the Cure Ice Fishing Challenge. The money can help 120 cancer patients who are unable to work pay an overdue utility bill. Or it could be used to provide transportation for 2,400 patients to receive their cancer treatments.

The ice fishing tournament continues to raise a significant amount of money while also increasing awareness of its Relay For Life cause—to help people who are fighting cancer and to find a cure.

A team of 80 volunteers provided 1,231 participants, including 209 children, a family friendly, fun-filled day of fishing, all for a great cause. More than 500 fish were weighed-in and the top 100 fish (by weight) were awarded prizes ranging in value from $1,000 to $50.

“Many of us know someone who has been affected by cancer. This tournament is the perfect cross between bringing people and families together to raise money for a good cause, while showing children how to have fun fishing,” said Paul Brickweg, owner, Paul’s Small Engine in Alexandria, and event donor. “It’s truly inspiring to see the amount of time Alexandria Industries and its employees give to host this community event.”

“It is because of the commitment of our volunteers and the generosity of more than 100 sponsors who support the tournament year after year, that we can host such an amazing event to raise huge amounts of money,” said Lynette Kluver, director of organizational development. “We are sincerely thankful to every company, organization, person, family, and everyone else, who have all contributed so much.”

Team of Excellence
Along with its annual Fishing For the Cure Ice Fishing Challenge held every year on the third weekend in February, Alexandria Industries’ employees host many fundraising events for Relay For Life, including lunch fundraisers, bingo night, and other efforts. Employees reach out to their communities, families and friends, sharing the passion they have and the urgent need we have to find a cure for cancer. Last year, they raised slightly more than $80,000 for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. Alexandria Industries was named the Top Fundraising Team in Minnesota, the number two team in the region (13 states) and number 10 in the nation.

Founded by Dr. Gordy Klatt in Washington in 1985, the Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer. Uniting communities across the globe, Relay For Life celebrates cancer survivors, those who continue their cancer fight, and those we have lost.
