Small Team Raises Big Money, Awarded Minnesota’s Top Fundraising Team, Nationwide Team of Excellence and Top Team in the North Region
With an unstoppable determination to find a cure for cancer, the employees of Alexandria Industries raised more money for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life than every team in Minnesota—including the biggest ones.
Named Minnesota’s 2022 Top Fundraising Team, employees raised $115,000 for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life (ACS). The team also ranked as the second largest fundraiser in the North region and #18 in the nation, earning the Nationwide Team of Excellence and Top Team in the North Region awards. The team receives fundraising support from many volunteers, and massive generosity from event sponsors, community members, family and friends.
The money provides transportation for cancer patients to medical appointments, free lodging for treatments that are far from home, and copay assistance programs to reduce the burdens of high prescription drug costs. It also goes to the scientists and medical researchers to develop new medications, therapies and life-saving surgeries so one day we can live in a world without cancer.
What This Means
“I have watched our employees grow their fundraising from six hundred bucks to $115,000 dollars,” said Tom Schabel, CEO, Alexandria Industries. “The work they do to generate the support, gather volunteers, encourage participation and increase donations, shows what it means to give your heart to something bigger than yourself. They are a true inspiration for people fighting cancer. These awards will simply give them more resolve to keep going until cancer is cured.”
The team’s largest fundraising effort, the 16th Annual Fishing For the Cure Ice Fishing Challenge, scheduled on Saturday, Feb. 18, from 12-3 pm, is destined to be another amazing event. At the 2022 ice fishing tournament, the team raised $93,700! These funds were combined with other employee fundraising efforts to amount to the $115,000 contributed to the Relay for Life fundraising total.
“It is mind-blowing to see this team rally every part of their community to support Relay For Life,” said Sherri Maanum, senior community development manager for the American Cancer Society, Inc. “Their efforts go beyond anything I have seen. It allows me to envision a world made better by people like them.”
