Gone to the Dogs

Woof Woof

Volunteering has always been important for the employees of Alexandria Industries. One way to add more fun to volunteering is by incorporating our love for our dogs into volunteering activities. Here are some stories about three employees who have done just that.

A Dog Variety Show

Our employee, Scott, volunteered at a summer camp program for kids where they include a Dog Variety Show. More than 200 young campers watched his two World Champion Frisbee dogs play Frisbee, while his other dogs performed agility racing and tricks. The children loved being able to have fun with the dogs and Scott had an amazing time involving his dogs in a way that benefited the children.

Pet Therapy

Tammie volunteers at the Douglas County Hospice Pet Therapy program where her therapy dog provides terminally ill hospice patients with unconditional love, bonding, socialization and companionship. The patients (and their families) often find peace and comfort in the company of therapy dogs. The physical contact has a calming effect and the dogs have the ability to bring diversion from physical discomfort, decrease anxiety and offer opportunities for laughter and joy.

Teaching Dog Agility

Another employee, TJ, volunteers his time to teach dog agility training for Douglas County 4H members. The members who receive a blue ribbon for participating in two years of dog obedience, can participate in the dog agility training program. Volunteers set up the agility course, and teach students how to train their dogs to run through it. The event gives 4H members and their dogs something fun to do while they learn how to train their pets.

Thank you to those who are making a difference in the lives of others. The rewards of volunteering to help others are immeasurable. If you love to volunteer, we challenge you to incorporate your passions into volunteering activities.
