Grow Your Own

Employee training isn’t new at Alexandria Industries. We began seven years ago by developing a two-year Leadership Academy program that covers leadership training in communications, relationship building, business acumen and culture, along with one-on-one counseling exploring personal objectives, obstacles and opportunities.

Three graduation classes and 45 leaders later, we have taken our successful Leadership Academy program format and are developing a new training program – Manufacturing Academy – to fill our pipeline of technically skilled workers.

Manufacturing Academy
The purpose of the Manufacturing Academy training program will be to teach technical skillsets in aluminum extrusion, precision machining, robotics, tooling, and engineering. It will also include curriculum that covers quality and statistical process control, fixture design, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) measurement skills and Quick Response Manufacturing (QRM).

All manufacturing employees are eligible to apply for participation in the Manufacturing Academy program.

The courses will include a mix of classroom and hands-on learning to cross-train employees so they can step strongly into production and have the skillset to rotate among eight different manufacturing areas within our facilities. They also will be taught to look for, determine and implement process improvements whenever possible.

Our goal is to launch the pilot Manufacturing Academy training program later in 2015, and follow up with the development of an entry-level Manufacturing 101 course for newer employees, along with a higher technical-level Manufacturing Masters course for skilled and experienced employees soon to follow.

A Competitive Advantage
While other manufacturers are struggling to find their future leaders and skilled workers in today’s competitive landscape, Alexandria Industries is growing our own. Our “Commitment to Excellence” and “Employee Well-being,” values are leading the way to programs that enable us to train and retain the high-quality employees we already have, while supporting our recruitment efforts for new employees who want to make a difference in the work they do every day.

We believe the development of these types of training programs creates a competitive advantage for our business, and through our Demand Innovation philosophy, we believe we can be your competitive advantage too.
